5 Simple Ways to Stay Social This Summer

Summer has a lovely way of pulling people together, such as porch visits, farmers markets, and longer evenings that turn into long conversations before finally heading inside. However, it’s also easy for the season to slip by without making time for the people (and pups) who bring us joy.

Staying socially connected isn’t just good for the soul, it’s good for overall wellbeing at any age. So here are five easy, no-pressure ways to stay social this summer.

1. Make a Standing Date

You don’t need a big event to see the people you love. A weekly phone call, a Sunday coffee, or a regular walk around the block with a neighbor can become something to look forward to. The magic is in consistency, not the size of the plan.

2. Turn a Walk Into a Visit

A walk around the block does double duty when you bring a neighbor or friend along. It’s easy, it’s good for you, and conversation tends to flow more naturally side-by-side than face-to-face. Bonus points if it ends with a “Minnesota goodbye” that stretches on for another twenty minutes at the driveway.

eternalHealth supports your wellness journey with tools like OnePass, which offers access to gyms, fitness classes, and group activities where you can build movement and connection into the same outing.

3. Let a Dog Lead the Way

If you’ve got a pup (or know someone who does), National Dog Day on August 26th is the perfect nudge to take that evening walk with a neighbor and their four-legged friend. Dogs have a way of starting conversations that people alone sometimes don’t.

4. Bridge the Generations

International Youth Day falls on August 12th, and it’s a sweet reminder that some of the best memories happen across generations. Teach a grandchild a recipe, ask them to show you a new app, or just sit and swap stories. These are moments that everyone will treasure.

5. Say Yes to the Small Thing

A porch chat. A short trip to the farmer’s market. A community bulletin board event you’ve been meaning to check out. The small, lowkey invitations are often the easiest ones to say yes to, and they add up to a summer filled with connection!

However, you spend these last weeks of summer, a little connection goes a long way. Here’s a season full of good company.
